We had booked originally for a week in order to visit Floriade 2022 being held in Almere. (Floriade closes in early October).We liked it so much we stayed an extra 5 days!
The campsite is divided into smaller fields by high hedges which made for a more intimate feel. It is quiet, especially at night. We enjoyed a sheltered pitch with lots of sunshine but there are plenty of trees giving shade. it was a novelty living behind the protection of a dyke where the water level was much higher than the site terrain. There were some spectacular sunsets over the water. There was abundant bird life and we were not troubled by mosquitoes to any great extent.

The reception staff were universally helpful. The sanitary facilities, which are the standard prefabricated set-up we have encountered before on Netherlands’ sites, were kept scrupulously clean. Even though there is only the one block, queuing, even at weekends, was minimal, hot water was plentiful & the hot showers, metered by coins were generous in length of time, with cold water available at all times.

The site offers access to a variety of cycling and walking routes. There are fishing lakes adjacent to the site, atTom’s Creek, and limited catering facilities exist nearby.

It is fair to say the site is somewhat isolated: to gain access to public transport requires a fairly long walk, similarly, groceries are available at a new Albert Heijn store but it would be a long walk to carry provisions back to the site.

Access to the site is easy from the dual carriageway ring road to the south of Lelystad, the minor roads from there were sometimes narrow but there was little traffic. We found it easy to explore further afield, Bataviastad, Lelystad and Almere were easily reached in under 30 minutes driving.

We recommend this site for its rural tranquillity & waterside views, although these are only visible by climbing the dyke!

Please note that we have been forced to assess the site for its children’s facilities: there is a small playground, and Sports facilities. We have entered an ambivalent opinion as we don’t feel qualified to assess these in comparison with what others might expect: we didn’t use them!
